Trim Enabler 3.0 Released
November 19, 2013 Oskar

Trim Enabler 3.0 is finally released!

Trim Enabler 3.0 is a BIG update from the previous version. And it is still completely free to use. However, some of the new features has to be unlocked through purchasing a Pro license. The Pro license is only $10. There are issues with Paypal at the moment, so you will be able to purchase soon.

Here are the new features in Trim Enabler 3.0:

Completely updated User Interface that draws alot of inspiration from iOS7. There is not quite another app out there that looks like this on the Mac ๐Ÿ™‚

Menu Bar support – Trim Enabler 3.0 can be kept in the menu bar or, if you wish, drag it away to disconnect into a standalone window. Drag it back to reconnect it to the menu bar.

Settings – you can now have Trim Enabler warn you if the Trim patch is disabled by a system update. You can also have the application start on boot.

New Pro features:

S.M.A.R.T

Advanced S.M.A.R.T Monitor, this is a big upgrade from the S.M.A.R.T feature in old Trim Enabler. You can now see alot more statistics and Trim Enabler will warn you if your drive is failing.

Tweaks

SSD Tweaks – Access advanced tweaks to improve SSD performance or free up disk space – it’s as easy as flipping a switch.

Benchmark

Benchmark Utility – Measure SSD or hard drive speeds and filesystem performance with the super easy bechmark feature

I would love to buy the Pro version but with Paypal being the only payment option, I can’t. A lot of people don’t have, don’t want to have or can not have a Paypal account.

How do I get my hands an the Pro version?

    • Cindori 6 years ago

Totally understand. I’m open for suggestions for payment options. As far as I can tell, you can check out and pay via credit card if you use the paypal option. Without having to create a Paypal account.

So what other options do you have in mind? I’m already thinking about implementing Bitcoin, but quite few people use it.

      • Jon Brown 6 years ago

Stripe is a better payment gateway than PayPal in every way… however, there is no reason people can’t check out through PayPal as guest with a credit card.

    Ah finally! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi,

when I use two different computers, do I have to buy the pro Version twice?

Credit Card payment didn’t work, how do I get to it?

    Yours,
    Daniel

    • Cindori 6 years ago

      Hi Daniel
You can use your license on all of your computers.
However if I see a license being used on too many computers (like if someone spread their serial on the internet) it will be disabled.
What problems did you have with payment?

  4. daniel 6 years ago

    Hi Cindori,

thanks for your quick reply, I am glad to hear that. My Problem:
I couldn’t find a mask for paying with credit card. There was just the paypal button and the instruction “…if you donโ€™t have a PayPal account
Please click the โ€œReturn to sellers websiteโ€ link after paying.”

But I neither I could find “Return to sellers website” nor I could enter my credit card number. ?

    How do we fix this?

    Yours,
    Daniel

    • Cindori 6 years ago

      Hi daniel
      The full instruction was:
“If you don’t have a paypal account, you can pay by credit card”

I’m not able to charge credit cards directly at this moment, however if you check out with Paypal and register paypal account, I think you can pay directly by credit card. And then delete the account if you’d like.

I’ll try to fix credit card billing ASAP as I know alot of people can’t or don’t like to use Paypal.

    Benchmark doesn’t work ๐Ÿ™
whatever the app is excellent !! great work

    • Cindori 6 years ago

The benchmark can be broken the first time you open the app. It is due to Apple sandbox permission issues. After that it should work relatively fine. Another issue are that the UI gets stuck at 100%, but you can just rerun it and it should fix itself.

      • Steffen 6 years ago

I have troubles running the benchmark as non-admin user.
        1. It asks me several times in a row to enter administrative credentials.
        2. It puts some heavy load on the system so the fan turns up.
        3. No result is displayed.
This does not happen if the current user is an admin.

        • Steffen 6 years ago

Apparently, the problem is gone after a reboot, too. =)

  6. hop 6 years ago

    ok reboot resolve problem.

This app doesn’t run. I double click, but nothing. I’m on OS X 10.6.8.

    • Cindori 6 years ago

      Hi Stefan
The app is in the menu bar. As seen from the top screenshot.

If it does not appear there, please check System Messages for a crasch log and email to osgm.gr(at)gmail(dot)com

FYI- Trim Enabler version 2.2 not recognizing there is update to 3.0 now…

    • Cindori 6 years ago

Thanks Ed, I know about this, however I broke the SATA cable on my Macbook Pro so I can’t fix thie update until tomorrow :-/

  9. EdC 6 years ago

Is this needed for OWC’s Mercury Extreme Pro? It supposedly has controller-based TRIM function.

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

OWC has said that their SSD do not benefit from Trim in OSX. At the same time though, its probably enabled in Windows. My guess is that as a company, they dont want to encourage third party hacks, that could affect their products. Ive only heard good news from OWC users that did enable Trim.

  10. KVZ3 6 years ago

As a user with 2 ssd in my macbook pro may I suggest that we could choose the disk on which the benchmark would run?

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

Totally agree with you, that and some other things is coming in an update by the end of this month. Some other things are S.M.A.R.T for USB SATA drives, and the menu bar icon will also be improved.

  11. J.P. Urdiroz 6 years ago

    Hello

Today, I have purchased the license through PayPal Pro but I have not received the activation code.

    Anyone can help me?

  12. tangles 6 years ago

    Nice work Cindori!
Got the nice iOS7 themes happening too!

Do you intend to support SSDs on the USB bus in the future as well as SMART?

I whacked an OWC into my MBAir 11″ and have the original 64GB in their USB3 “Envoy” enclosure… I’m assuming that If I boot from the Envoy via USB and run Trim Enabler that it would have no effect on the 64GB atm?

    thanx again for your efforts…

    r.

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

A USB S.M.A.R.T driver will be distributed for next update. It will hopefully add support for USB-connected SSD’s.

  13. Steffen 6 years ago

For my Intel 320 SSD, no temperature is displayed. Does it not have a sensor?
Feature request: How about adding explanations to the reported smart attributes, e.g., as hover pop-ups?

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

      Hi Steffen
After brief googling, it looks like it does not… Or at least not reporting it for S.M.A.R.T. Unfortunately, disk manufacturers don’t follow any S.M.A.R.T standard and can offer very different values.

  14. Hello
Today, I have purchased the pro license through PayPal, but I have not received the License key.

    Can you help me?

    tnx.

    Hi Marc
It’s not really clear what doesn’t work for you, but for now, let’s await the final release of Mavericks before starting to research issues.

    • Marc Thielemann 6 years ago

      Hi Oskar,

same behavior in DP6. I am able to enable TRIM for my Samsung 840 Pro but after restart it is disabled again.

  16. kdiamond 6 years ago

i purchased pro, but i can’t use the benchmark with my Plexter px-512m5pro. and my another hdd,too..(WDC WD5000BEKT)
How i can use the benchmark with my HDD?

  17. dievil 6 years ago

Hello a little newbie question, i’ve just installed an SSD in my 2011 27″ iMac and configured FusionDrive. is Trim Enabler compatible with FusionDrive ? Thank You.

  18. Secretliar 6 years ago

    Hi!
Thanks a lot for your software ๐Ÿ™‚

    Here’s my suggestions :

    * Menubar icon like the others : black
    * A system star up check then auto quit the software :
    – When login : grey icon in the menu bar, check the TRIM state.
    – Green icon for 10s to say that TRIM is still enable, then the software automatically quit.
    – Red icon is TRIM is disabled and no auto quit

I love that TRIM Enabler check the state of TRIM but I don’t want the menubar icon and the software launched all the time :/

  19. Dominic 6 years ago

Will there be an option in the future to hide the menubar icon? I’d love that! Please and thank you!

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

Hi Dominic. I’m not sure about that – if the menu icon is hidden, it’s kind of hard to access the app. I know the menu icon is a bit ugly, I plan to improve it.

      • Dominic 6 years ago

Okay. This new version is a great improvement though. Thanks for your app!

      • Chris 6 years ago

I dont want a menu bar icon either. Can we just have an option to not show it?
If not can i have a link to the older version?

  20. hop 6 years ago

    Some questions :

    1) The app will work with next MacOS maverick ?

2)Will you signed the app with a developer ID for gateKeeper ?

    Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

      1. I have tested it with all developer previews but I can never guarantee nothing changes for retail

      2. I dont have Mac Developer membership atm but I will consider it

Hey, happy user of TRIM Enabler for years here :).

Version 3.0 looks nice, the UI has an issue though: the on/off switches are very confusing. In the Settings panel (the cogwheel one), how can I tell whether the options are on or off? Referring to “Warn if trim patch is disabled” and “Start application on boot”. There’s no way to tell…!

  22. Matt 6 years ago

I used TRIM Enabler all the time on my computer and it was the best, and now I used 3.0 on Mavericks and I got a kernel panic and my computer wouldn’t boot anymore. I had to do a full re-install of OS X Mavericks. Thankfully, I had a time machine backup. Do you know why this would be happening? I want to try again but I’m worried it will mess up my computer again. I

    I have a Early 2008 (pre-unibody) MBP 15″ with a Crucial CT256M225 SSD in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  23. Jon Brown 6 years ago

Thanks for the update! …but how do I hide the menu bar icon?

I really have no need or desire to continually monitor the status of trim enabler so there is no reason to have it sucking up valuable space in my menu bar…

Last September I made a donation that exceeded the price of a Pro upgrade. Any chance for a gratis Pro upgrade?

    • Oskar Groth 6 years ago

Hi! I sent out free licences to all who had donated. Perhaps you have changed your email since. Contact me by email and I’ll be sure to send you one ๐Ÿ™‚

Paypal payment for pro version is not workng, sandbox.paypal.com does not recognize me but i can login to http://www.paypal.com using my credentials, weird..

    • Cindori 6 years ago

I had forgot to disable paypal sandbox (its for testing). Please give me a day or two to fix it.

      • KVZ3 6 years ago

still not working it says “this bill has already been paid”…
Weird. I really want to support your work been using it since it came out.

        • KVZ3 6 years ago

Ok fixed, I’m now waiting for my serial ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Ewan 6 years ago

I miss the Trim 3.0 so much b/c it runs as a menubar app instead of a dock app
After update (as I did), it runs as a dock app.
Anybody who volunteers could kindly sends me a copy of Trim 3.0, thx !!!

Hi I just purchased the full version ($10) yesterday and am please with everything so far. The only suggestion is to include the tweak for “noatime flag” for the upcoming releases.

    thanks

    • luca iscm 6 years ago

      Hi,
Mavericks seems not to accept noatime-flag.
I have the famous nullvision .plist file and it worked until 10.8 on ‘regular’ disks.
The output on 10.9.2/ssd disk is:
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
Couldn’t say if this is due to ssd or Maverick, but I see no point in blaming ssd.

  28. kelvin 6 years ago

Hi, after I activate/on the trim enabler, should I hide it on the dock or can quit the program??
    Thanks

  29. Josh 6 years ago

I can’t get the program to go to the menu bar. I’m running Mavericks 10.9.1. I try to “drag” it to the bar, only to have the window stop at the bar and go no further. Please advise. Thanks!

Any news on if this app will enable TRIM on, or will be updated to work with, a USB-connected SSD?

    • Oskar Groth 5 years ago

Most USB disk enclosures does not support Trim on their controllers. It’s not something Trim Enabler can help with.

  32. Maxence Capdeville 5 years ago

    Hello Cindori community,

Yesterday I purchased an activation key for Trim Enabler Pro.

The problem is that I did not receive a confirmation of my purchase or my activation key.

I checked my spam folder and I have nothing. Can I give you a second email address? Sometimes the one I gave you does not work for months.

    Best regards,

    Max.

    • Oskar Groth 5 years ago

      I’ve sent you an email.
