Trim Enabler 2.2 Update!

Trim Enabler 2.2 Update!
July 5, 2012 Oskar

Also, I’ve had a change to look into why some drives won’t give correct S.M.A.R.T values (questionmark, or “Unavailable”). It is simply because a portion of hard drives, and SSD,s simply are not given this feature by the manufacturer. You will see the same result using say, S.M.A.R.T tools under Windows. Sorry!

Thanks for the update, keep up the good work.

I noticed few, minor, issues with the application. As I think I’ve mentioned before the window positioning is (still) broken. This just means that the window is opened in one certain spot, always, no matter whether you change the position when the application is on or not. If you ask me the window should open once in the center of the screen and after that it’d be up to the user to change the position, if one so desires.

There also seems to be a cap that’s been filled since Trim Enabler is telling me that my “Hours powered on” is 999 hours. Also my temperature according to it is 128 Celsius, which I sure hope is not true (I’ve seen this with iStat Pro widget too). Not sure whether or not you can fix the latter, just thought to let you know. 🙂

I’ve been using TRIM Enabler since last year without a problem, but this 2.2 update causes my MacBook Pro to freeze whenever I open the .app file (in Applications). The patch is working and in effect (indicated by a “Yes” next to TRIM Support in System Report), but the app stalls whenever I open it.

    OS X Lion, INTEL SSDSA2M160G2GN

Well I have tested it and I have the same problems as past versions: it freezes again and again in my OZC Vertex 3 Macmini 2011 with Lion.

    My solution: disable TRIM.

I thank any support you can give me.

PS: Is it absolutely necessary to enable it?

Any support with Mountain Lion yet?

    Thanks!

I’ll look into the window positioning. As for the S.M.A.R.T data, my research on it has told me that in many cases the SSD firmware for S.M.A.R.T data is buggy. Its probably why your data seems to be capped. Look up on new available firmwares for your SSD is the advice I can give.

I’d love to get a glimpse of the crasch report. It can be found in the app “System Messages”.

Again, let me have a look at the crash report. It might be an issue with permissions.

I don’t have 10.8 myself yet, but it has been reported to work on DP1, DP2, and DP3. I’ll post about it when I’ve tried for myself.

First off, thanks for an awesome piece of software! Secondly, a quick question about SMART reporting using version 2.2. My Mushkin Chronos deluxe 240GB Solid State Drive – MKNSSDCR240GB-DX does not show up correctly in the “Statistics” area of the SMART window. Is there anything I can do in order for this to work correctly? Thanks!

FWIW, 2.2 still lists disks in the wrong order for me.

Thx for this great tool – works just fine on a MacBook late 2009 with Samsung 830 128GB

Mountain Lion is out and I wonder anyone tried it and can confirm it’s working?

Just tried it after 10.7.4 to 10.8 upgrade and at least System Information reports “TRIM Support: Yes” after running Trim Enabler.

    iMac 27″ Late 2009, Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW080G3 and Trim Enabler 2.2.

Just installed on Mac Mini (6.1):
    OS X Version 10.8.3

Trim-Enabler successfully initiated Trim support on my Samsung 840 Pro! Thank you!
S.M.A.R.T. status returned as Verified as well!
